When Memorial Hospital’s staff realized that the thousands of documents they received per day consisted primarily of referrals, patient histories, and prior authorizations, they knew that new ways of doing things were needed to save time and increase efficiencies. These documents required identification, manual sorting, and insertion into patient charts to be actionable, which took too much time and attention away from their core responsibilities. By using new technology to automatically transform incoming faxes and pdfs from unstructured data into preferred data structures such as HL7 v2, X12, Direct Secure Messaging, and HL7® FHIR®, Memorial hospital was able to reduce administrative burden and streamline workflow processes. Join us to learn how Memorial Hospital has enabled their staff to quickly identify and treat oral cancer discovered in the community.

Whether it’s streamlining a referral or more efficient transitions of care, the burden of clinical documentation often leads to processes that encumber the best possible patient care.

ONC notes in their October 2022 plan on Priorities to Accelerate Workflow in Healthcare that “inefficient workflows continue to slow the delivery of health care, forcing providers to spend effort on low value, manual tasks rather than spending the bulk of their time focused on point-of-care patient interactions.”

Automating the administrative processes around care transitions and care coordination has the ability to directly address many of the largest challenges in healthcare today, among them the cost, quality, and safety of health care, as well as mounting provider burnout. Technology can solve many of these challenges.

In this panel discussion you will learn how providers and health plans can work together with their technology partners to streamline referrals and benefit patient care. You will hear how the deployment of technology tools such as automated workflow, NLP and AI can provide measurable results.
